Solivera - Dutch Solivera - English Solivera - German Solivera - French

At Can Solivera we are turning back the clock. Not only do we make our soap by hand according to a mediaeval recipe using the cold process, but the only fatty ingredient it contains is extra virgin olive oil, cold pressed from the pulp of olives. In other words: our soaps have none of the used or 'spent' olive oil, lamp oil or cheaper oil chemically distilled from olive pits under high temperatures that most standard olive-oil soaps have. We use natural well water and add just a bit of sea salt and citric acid, a natural PH regulator. Throughout the production process, the temperature of the fresh soap never exceeds 37°C. That is important, since that cold process is what retains the unique properties of extra virgin olive oil. Our soap has the subtle fragrance of essential oils, distilled with steam from rosemary, lavender and pine needles---the shrubs and trees that grow alongside the olive trees on our estate. Can Solivera soap is mild and has a moisturising effect on your skin.

The use of extra virgin olive oil makes a world of difference, because only extra virgin olive oil also contains the natural lipid known as squalene, in addition to vitamin A and E and antioxidants. And scientists suspect that squalene has properties that fight and may even prevent some forms of cancer (including skin cancer) and that strengthen the immune system. Olive trees produce more squalene than any other kind of plant or tree. To give an example: fresh extra virgin olive oil contains 136-708 mg of squalene per 100 g compared to 19-36 mg in maize oil (Gutfinger and Letan). In 2005, researchers in Philadelphia discovered yet another natural remedy that is found exclusively in extra virgin olive oil: oleocanthal, which is comparable to the well-known painkiller and anti-inflammatory ibuprofen, albeit less concentrated.

NB: Like any other soap, Can Solivera soap should only be used externally. As Can Solivera soap contains no artificial colouring, the colour can vary from white to a dark cream colour. We cut the soap in rectangular pieces that may have uneven edges, although with use those edges will of course become round and soft.

After using our soap in a bathtub, you might see a ring on the inside of the tub. This is quite normal: indeed, it is characteristic of soap. Those of us who are older will remember how you used to have to clean the tub with a brush after each use. As Can Solivera soap contains no chemicals that will do that job for you, we offer our apologies for this minor inconvenience. Our soap contains no animal products and is not tested on animals.

We hope you will thoroughly enjoy using this timeless product!
